I have been thinking a lot about my blog over the last few weeks and how I can provide more value to my readers.
My primary goal of my blog is to help my readers, but my goal as a coach is more than that. It is to help my readers make a sustainable change to their lives.
The only way to make a change is to take action. So my blog posts from now on will be based each week on a leadership challenge. A challenge that will help you to take a small step. A step that will move you forward with an important career or life goal.
The downside to you is that you are going to have to do some work as well. The upside though is that you will be moving forward slowly towards a sustainable career and/or life change.
I am 100% willing and able to put the time and effort in each week, but are you?
If you are then let’s get started with this weeks challenge.
End Goal – Work-Life Balance
Journey Goal – Spend more time with your family at the weekend
This week’s challenge is for you to find more time to spend with your family at the weekend.
Is this something you are motivated to do?
Are you willing to investment some of your time on this?
Great, then grab a piece of paper and a pen and let’s begin.
Step 1
I want you to write everything that takes up your time at the weekend.
Step 2
Now you have a list, I want you to identify the item that takes the most time.
Step 3
Right, it’s time to brainstorm. I want you to come up with as many ideas as you can on how you can stop doing this item at the weekend. I need you to think out of the box and remember that no idea here is wrong, just write it down everything that comes to you.
- Can you do this during the week instead?
- Are your children old enough to pick up this during the week after school?
- Can your partner do it during the week?
- Can you outsource it to a third party i.e. cleaner, gardener?
- Can you delay it and do it once a month?
What else?
What would your best friend tell you to do?
What else?
Step 4
If you cannot get rid of it, then I want you to identify the next item in your list that takes the most time and repeat step 3.
If you have come up with some ideas, that is fantastic.
Now which one are you going to action? – write it down
When are you going to do it by, date and time? – write it down
Who can hold you accountable? – tell them what you are going to do, why you are doing it and when you will have it done by.
If you haven’t anybody to hold you accountable, I am more than happy to be your accountability partner, just email it to me at nick@nicholas-foster.com
Step 5
As Nike would say, Just Do It!
It’s a Wrap
I hope this process worked for you and you found some more time to spend with your family.
If it did, then I would love to hear what you are going to do and how much time it is going to save you. Either in the comments or email me at nick@nicholas-foster.com
Next week’s challenge will be again focused on work-life balance.
Well that’s one challenge out of the way for you, now onto the next.
Nick
P.S. – Please share this with a colleague as we could all use help with our work-life balance.
